The Graham Effect by Elle Kennedy
5.0
" . . . a return to form . . . " " . . . an instant classic . . . " ". . . Kennedy has outdone herself . . . "
No, those are not excerpts from an Oscar nominated film. They are my thoughts on this beautiful, over the top, ridiculous book that is everything I wanted.
I love when enemies to lovers is actually misunderstanding to lovers. They got off on the wrong foot and it took them a bit longer to realize they vibe. They have the tiniest bit of backstory before meeting again in college but it's enough. Enough to get the banter flowing, the tension tightening, my hands raising in the air. I liked that they were friends first. They genuinely started helping each other with no romantic or sexual intent (allegedly).
Let's get into the ridiculousness of it all:"Uncle" Dean showing up for one scene just to drop off a value pack of condoms, Ryder's tragic backstory being that he saw his father MURDER his mother at the age of six, Jesus take the wheel, two 21 -year-olds eloping in Vegas after dating for seven months, Gigi thinking she's a girly girl because she loves butterflies???? Come on now, girl, don't put yourself in a box. And finally, Garrett Graham still hugging his daughter's ex-boyfriend after he knows that boy cheated on his daughter. Not my Garrett Graham.
