Academy of Assassins by Stacey Brutger

5.0

Okay so I really liked this book. And now I have to wait who knows how long for the next one??? Not cool. Guess I'll just have to reread this a few hundred times while I wait :).
In Academy of Assassins we're introduced to Morgan, a girl more than human, who is training to be a hunter. Unfortunately female hunters are pretty rare, so Morgan has to train harder, fight better, and be stronger than anyone else. So far she's doing a pretty good job *hehe*. When the notorious Academy (which is like a school but also a sentient being) invited her to attend, not just as a student but to investigate a series of murders, Morgan has no choice but to go.
In this world (Earth but with paranormals) witches hold the power and other supernaturals seem to be stereotyped and subservient to witches. When Morgan arrives at the academy, she has a strong dislike of witches, but treats all other supernaturals with respect. She doesn't treat others as less than herself which really shocks most of the guys she meets. After being assigned to one of the toughest group of hunters, Morgan starts to learn more about each guy and vice versa.
Kincade is a hardass with some serious walls built up. Although I suspected what he was from the beginning, its not actually revealed until the very end. Ryder, the shifter, is surprised by Morgan's acceptance of werewolves and her desire to run with the pack. Draven, the siren, is shocked when Morgan hears his song and isn't enthralled. Atlas, the fae, is intrigued by Morgan and suspicious of her origins and impressed by her skills. These guys live in a world where most women are witches who are supposed to be protected by hunters, not fight along side them. This makes for a fun dynamic between Morgan, the badass huntress with an unlimited supply of weapons, and the guys who are torn between trying to protect her and fighting with her. Ascher, the hellhound, is also very important to Morgan, but I won't say anymore *evil grin*.
I loved the plot and characters in this book. While it is part of a continuous series this book didn't end in a cliffhanger, most of the issues here were resolved, but Morgan and the guys still have some stuff to work out. I seriously cannot wait for book 2!!
