This book starts strong and then over the course of so(!) many(!!) pages spirals into absolute incoherent madness. There are two or three scenes that were intensely uncomfortable to read, all of them revolving around Beverly, the only female character
especially THAT mindboggling group sex scene between a bunch of minors?? in the SEWERS?? honestly it's so wild I was barely even upset that King made me read it with my own eyes. But honestly, nobody else should have to read this. Ever
.
Why still rate the book so high? Because the prose is THAT good. The way this story is told is pure distilled nostalgia, it captures the feeling of being that age so perfectly and so beautifully that I devoured all 1,4k pages even though things were getting progressively more insane, not in a good way, and even though there were some scenes that would have definitely made me put the book down in almost any other case.
