Critical Intelligence by Mandy M. Roth

*Sighs heavily....*

I was highly disappointed with this novel as a whole. Firstly, Roth chose to ignore all the wonderful foreshadowing she built up in the first book and focus on two other characters instead of flushing out all the powerful and addicting action that she could have. Secondly, this novel is all about sex. Even the action is made light of because the author focuses on the would-be sexual relationship of Roi and Missy. It's more than regretful because she makes them both out to be characters whose actions scream out, both are very good at what they do and yet we don't really see them in action.

There is a magnificent fight scene that draws inspiration from the first novel in the series but not much happens with it. I was expecting a chase, a race to figure out who was behind it, something. I mean, for a paranormal government agency that centers on paranormal activity and making sure angry supernaturals don't kill off the human race, we don't really see any of the operatives at work. It's really just there as background instead of being integral to the plot as it should be. I have the entire collection but now i don't want to finish it. I had been so optimistic at the end of the first novel, even though it wasn't that good, and now all my hopes are dashed.
