Leo's Chance by Mia Sheridan

4.0

I read Leo and Leo's Chance pretty much together, yes I have too much time on my hands, and I found that really helped me enjoy the books so much more. If I had just read Leo I think I would have found him infuriating as a character as well, but reading his thoughts parallel to Evie's helped me process what both characters were feeling in a way that made the story deeper. And helped me build more empathy towards both main characters. Both of these fictional people had been through terrible situations and yet eventually both came through the other side as good people, though Leo took longer than Evie did and sometimes that made her seem too perfect.

I do think Leo's thoughts sometimes come across as clearly being written by a female (I say that growing up with 3 brothers with guys around all the time) but its a work of fiction. I am not looking to read War and Peace here.

This is also a book where I could actually say that him being a man whore (due to what happened to him) made sense especially in how treated his partners, and it equally made sense why he stopped. Hello therapy to deal with trauma and work on coping mechanisms! I swear in other books they seem to imply the love of a good, usually virgin, woman will stop a man from screwing equally promiscuous women for the rest of his life (insert eye roll). It was obvious in the writing that Leo loved and adored Evie and I never once felt like he would ever take her for granted. I do think Gwen's bitchiness was a little over the top and Lauren's comeuppance a bit too karmic but overall I really enjoyed this book and liked both characters. That's a win for me in this genre.
