Moby-Dick: Or, the Whale by Herman Melville

4.0

There's not much to add about this classic that hasn't already been said. The dry, encyclopedic chapters on all things whaling will tempt you to put down the book and never take it up again. If you can get through those (even skimming if necessary) and you can manage the archaic language, then you're in for a wonderful treat. Some advice: unless you are very familiar with Shakespeare and the Bible, I recommend you read the generously footnoted Norton Critical Edition version edited by Herschel Parker and Harrison Hayford. It helps you understand the many literary references woven through the book.
