Period Power: Harness Your Hormones and Get Your Cycle Working for You by Maisie Hill

2.75

The chapters on anatomy, hormonology and tracking/living with your cycle were the most valuable to me as they also offered concreet tools to get started with.

The author, who is herself an alternative health practicioner, discusses western as well as non-western approaches and treatment options, but clearly favours the latter. While I do not mind a more holistic approach, it was very clear the author was  judgemental about hormonal birthcontrol, other western treatments and medication and different types of diet (such as vegetarian and vegan). This is not very helpful for people who menstruate and for whom e.g. hormonal birthcontrol is the best option for their particular situation.

I would reccomend skipping the ‘selfcare’ chapter and listering to the podcast Maintenance Phase instead. There is a lot of diet talk and the language used seems kind of fatphobic to me.
