Mario and The Stones by Katy Sloop Roberts

5.0

This was a lovely charming read which reminded me of old fashioned folk stories. My little reader is too young to read it on his own but it’s definitely one I will be keeping on the shelf.

Starving Mario agrees to help Luna in exchange for food. He doesn’t keep his end of the bargain and ends up sleeping instead of working. All the time a black cat called Fortuna is keeping an eye on him…

This was a moral tale with a touch of magic and a message about not being lazy. I loved that the text is interspersed with Italian words and phrases and there is even a glossary which explains some of the key elements of the story.

There are some lovely little illustrations throughout as well.

A fantastic debut and I definitely will be looking out for the next one in the series. The only negative is my copy isn’t signed by Lucky who is the real life inspiration for Fortuna the cat
