American Royals by Katharine McGee

1.0

American royals is a contemporary, romantic reimagined historical fiction. Basically the whole idea is what if George Washington became a monarch instead of a president? So, American Royals follows the modern day lives of America's royal family—the House of Washington, years later.

The book has multiple pov, all 4 voices are of women. We have Princess Beatrice, the queen to be, Princess Samantha , the scandalous rebel, Nina the commoner and Daphne Deighton, the villainous court noble. The multiple povs are easy to follow and did keep me engaged. We deal with the struggles of young princess training to take the role of a queen one day. Nina, and her commoner life interwoven with the royalty. Samantha, and her side of why she is rebellious. And Daphne whose main goal in life is just to get the prince, no matter what the cost.

Honestly the book is full of tropes, surrounding each character. Does not bring anything new to the table, just a lot of filler stuff, predictable characters, predictable storylines and arcs. I think the think that kept it going was the writing, because if flowed and kept you there, when the other things were lacking.

And there are a lot of problems and issues in the books, but they remained as unsolved as in the beginning of the book. I would have liked for at least something to be solved but this one just puts it all for the sequel. And we are as closure less by the end as we were at the start.

Also, the whole reimagining thing is problematic in itself. Because why has no one in the whole publishing process realized that America was colonized from its native people. Genocide happened, slavery happened so instead of a democracy inventing a monarchy to be ruled over said people is so so wrong! And there are no black people in this book that i noticed.

This ballent ignoring of colonialism, its effect and other political things that i will admit that i am not strong in is very very very wrong, specially in today's world. The history is all sort of messed up.An that fact makes this book a colossal what the actual hell. And i don't support that.
So yeah the book in the end, just wasn't something I would recommend.

thankyou to penguin platform for my advanced copy!!!!!!!
