The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold

3.0

An insightful look at the difficulties faced by women (and poor people) at the turn of the 19th century. I loved Polly's story but gradually lost interest after this.

Rubenhold spends a lot of time explaining that the women killed by Jack the Ripper were (mostly) not prostitutes... but to be honest, I am not sure that this matters? A woman who makes a living as a sex worker has just as much of a right to life as anyone else.

Laura articulates this beautifully in her review so I will just leave that there.
