The Waves by Virginia Woolf

5.0

One of my top three favorite books of all time, and my favorite book from Virginia Woolf. Reading the book for the first time can feel jarring, especially if you're already familiar with Woolf's work - it's an experimental cadence for her, with the speaker not always immediately clear and fractured structures that can make it difficult to read if you aren't fully immersed. The second time you read it, it feels like breathing. The pace is beautiful and almost a meditative state. It's a quiet practice in observance and almost painful honesty.
