Intriguing POV about the blurry line between obsession and love. Our main character is an anxious attachment to the extreme, and in that regard I found many of her moments to be somewhat unsettlingly and shockingly relatable. There’s a sort of tenseness without fear, as almost any other outcome would be better than the unique kind of suffocating torture the marriage of the main character and the husband seems to be. The hyper analysis and particular neuroses of the main character were so fascinating to me.
that being said, I HATED the epilogue/ending. I feel it overwrote the complexity of the main character and turned it into a cheap plot twist. Perhaps I would feel different if it was more than just a throwaway chapter, but regardless to have the husband “in on it” feels very “trying hard to be a plot twist.” This came out of nowhere as there’s no hint to it at all (which regardless of our main characters delusions I feel there should be). And to me it also undermines this idea that a man’s negligence is out of his negligence, not out of malice. To make his actions intentional rather than lack of consideration for his partner felt very reductive. It turned the book from a solid, non-stereotypical thriller to any other book in the genre for me.
