The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

4.0

Initial Thoughts:
I first read this book about 18 years ago now and I enjoyed it then but coming back to it again this time I loved it. It's very well written and yes I know "tropes" but its very engaging and enjoyable. The world-building is great and I loved the characters and the magic system.
I listened to it on Audible with Rosamund Pike narrating and she's completely brilliant. It's makes a difference being narrated by an actor too, makes for very dynamic listening.

Pros:
Well written, great flow and pacing
Engaging characters
Unique magic system
Great characters all round with kick-ass female presenting characters

Cons:
Cannot think of any at present

Overall:
Thoroughly enjoyable read/listen (Roughly 26 hours listening time with 53 chapters = awesome road-trip material). One of the great fantasy series' for a reason. I first read the Hobbit, then The Lord of the Rings and then read The Eye of the World up to Lord of Chaos and realize now I started at the top of the fantasy game. Robert Jordan weaved a fascinating story with complex characters and I look forward to continuing on with the series and completing it.
