Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

It's well worth persevering through the difficult-to-navigate first third of the book. I darned near gave up, but thought "Seriously, this won FIVE major awards; I need to find out why!" And I did--the story coalesces after a while and all the shifting perspectives, times and genders take shape and build toward the compelling finish.
