Crime and Punishment was uniquely human in a way I have only ever encountered in Russian literature. The power in which Dostoevsky portrays a broken mind is something beautiful. Raskolnikov is a sick man, a wicked man and yet I love him. I love Porfiry, Razumikhin, Dunya, Sofya, and even Svidrigailov. No book has made me felt a tangible love in my heart in such a way.
I could write an essay on Crime and Punishment and simultaneously can say nothing at all. It has profoundly impacted me in a way I can describe only with emotion. I hope one day I can explain what Crime and Punishment has done to and for me, but for now I can only cry.
