I picked this book up from the back to school YA section at my library and was looking for a lighthearted introduction to fantasy books. It checked all my boxes for exactly the kind of read I was looking for. Great storyline with characters that I felt so invested in that I grabbed the second book in the series when returning my copy to the library! It was a simple and fun read, I especially enjoyed one of the main characters who is queer but her backstory and character was written in way that it wasn’t the main focus of the book. I found it incredibly refreshing and comforting that the character’s queer aspects are written in such a societally normalized way.
