Caged Moon by Kitty Thomas, Zoe Winters

4.0

This is the sixth book in the Fated Mates series by Kitty Thomas. However, this book could be read as a stand alone without issue. It takes place twenty six years into the future and features characters that we meet as children in previous books in the series. They are all grown up and the world has changed since we last visited. It almost has a bit of a dystopian feel to it.

Vampires and shifters are hiding from the human magic users. Vampires who once lead all of the supernatural, are now hiding and feeding from the humans who are kicked out of their cities for whatever law that they broke. Shifters have it a little easier, because they can live if the wilderness and hunt for their food as their animals.

Sydney is the daughter of the former vampire king and his human mate. She got the worst of both worlds. She lives off blood, has sensitivity to sunlight, but as fragile as a human. They aren't even sure if she is aging like a human or not. She barely remembers a time before she forced to move with her family into the underground compound. She feels pretty much like prisoner in a gilded cage.

Noah is a werewolf who was born in his fur. That makes him more powerful than a standard shifter. He was captured when he was still really young by some magic users. Shifter blood and hair are used in magic and potions. But since Noah is more powerful than others, he is a real prize to the magic users. They have kept him a in a glass cell for most of his life.

Werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies, though these two played together when they were young because their human mothers were friends. They were separated really young first because of their father's hatred of each other and then because of Noah's capture.

This is a great story of how love can overcome impossible fates and prejudice. Their families also have to come to terms as they both just want what is best for these two lovebirds. We see pretty much all the characters from the previous books, so series lovers have something to look forward to.
