As someone who loved The Night Swim and The Escape Room by Megan Goldin, I thought I was sure to fall right back into the intricate mysteries that Goldin writes, but sadly this one fell very flat.
Dark Corners is a slow moving thriller with lots of moving pieces that just seem to fade into the background as you continue reading. By the end of the story I felt as if I received all the answers yet not many were satisfactory. Everything was a bit too straight forward and bland compared to Goldin's other heart racing thrillers. I will say their more recent novels have not worked well for me, as I did DNF Stay Awake due to the same bland feeling.
The only reason I am giving this novel three stars is because even though it felt like this book would never end, I wanted to know the ending. I wanted to have all the connections by the end of it. It also had great commentary on the prison system, influencer culture and our obsession with true crime.
