Read for the December meeting of the HEA Club at Blue Cypress Books in New Orleans, LA.
This was a very sweet, lighthearted holiday romance perfect for reading during the holiday season as the year draws to a close. Our MC, Stella, is dedicated to her Christmas tree farm and the beauty of Christmas. Luka, her love interest, is dedicated to doing whatever is necessary to make Stella happy. The two are clearly in love from the jump but are stuck in the friend zone until they have to fake date. Fake Dating and friends to lovers are two of my favorite tropes, so the romance here worked wonderfully for me.
Plot-wise, we don't get to saving the Christmas tree farm plot until well over halfway, but the romance keeps the book from stagnating. It's very much a hallmark movie romance, so the town is close-knit, and there's lots of gossip, friends, and town hijinks.
While this book was very fun, it felt like many other things I've read before and didn't really do anything to break its mold. Stella was a great narrator most of the time, although being in her head got to be frustrating toward the end as she just could not wrap her head around Luka being in love with her, even though he was saying it to her face.
This was a great final pick for book club!
