would i pick this book up if it wasn’t an assigned reading for school? no. i think that says enough but i’ll elaborate. the plot felt boring and repetitive. everything was utterly useless and boring. in the end everything was for nothing since jim was already free. not even that, but many of the events in the novel occurred for no reason. they felt like fillers. i mean they probably were fillers. although this book is mainly plot based, i get the feeling all of this was to show huck’s character development throughout the novel and how he goes from compliant to all social norms to breaking out of his shell a bit (despite the fact he fell right back into who his character was at the beginning towards the end of the novel for no reason at all). frankly i think this book is badly written and was a complete waste of my time.
