The Dark Divine by Bree Despain

3.0

I didn't expect to enjoy this book nearly as much as I did and even if it isn't fine literature, I still found myself staying up until 2am so that I could finish it. Anyone familiar with genre can guess what the big dark secret is going to be but there are enough new twists on the theme and the story still unfolds in a way that kept me interested and little on the edge of my seat. I would have rated it 4 stars if it wasn't for the awful headers between each scene change. The book is filled with dividers that proclaim "A few minutes later" "Wednesday afternoon at lunch" etc. Every time a location or time changes between the action one of these dumb proclamations is there in all caps, bold and underlined. It's distracting and annoying. The writing itself tells me everything I need to know about where the characters are both in location and time. I don't need this obnoxious header.
