The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter

5.0

Most of the time, the first one is the best in terms of story because you learn about everyone and what the main story is. With immortals after dark, the story changes depending on the couple, and the main storyline kind of happens in the background, weaving each story into each timeline. With the black dagger brotherhood, the story does progress but focuses on the mate more than anything.

I feel with these, so far anyway, that it focuses on the main story. I mean, there was romance and stuff, but there's no 'penetration' as until the near end of the book. Not that they didn't do other stuff. But even that was past the middle. No, it's mainly spent getting to know the other, while going about their quest for Pandora's box.

As Anya is a goddess, or daughter of a goddess, this touches lightly on mythology, and Anya uses her information gathered from being a child growing up in that in that environment, to help find these four objects that help locate Pandora's box, which were hidden by Zeus. Dun dun dunnnnn!

Anya has a crush on 'Lucy' or 'Flowers' as she likes to call Lucian or 'death' as his demon is named, and this book starts with her trying her hardest - and succeeding- in getting a kiss off of him. And let me tell you, do I want a fucking kiss like THAT! Woo! Bring me the ice bath!

While Lucian is all scarred and stuff - we find out he did this to himself- and women tend to run from him in horror - his intention of scarring himself- Anya is enthralled by him, and they play a lot of cat and mouse not telling the other they like one another and abusing each other with nasty one liners and lies to hide their affection.

Lucian is particularly hateful as he is just as obsessed, but learns her mother is a goddess who beds everyone, and jumps to the conclusion Anya has also. Long story short, she was cursed as a kid, she's a virgin and Lucian makes himself look like an ass.

In this they look for a cage hidden by Hydra that makes the person in it unable to free themselves, and compels them to do whatever the owner asks.

P.S Cronus is a big fat douce-lord. Douche-lord of all of douche-town. If I was these guys, I'd bitch slap him back to prison. Gods or not. He's a huge twat. More annoying than a fucking blowfly. (Which is fitting because he watches them all invisible all the time, god knows when! Perv.)
