A Woman Like Her by Marc Levy

4.0

I really liked this. I've read several books by this author, loved some, liked some - I think this one is near the top. There is often something a little quirky about his books, and it's not the translation, it is the original writing. Here, most of the book is in an omniscient 3rd person, and we are in the head of several of the different characters. Then, there are some first person chapters (Chloe) which also take us back in time, giving the reader glimpses of an earlier event (that is alluded to - The Boston Marathon bombing, without really saying that). In the audio version, the switch also voiced by different narrators.

The story jumped around a bit (in time, as mentioned above), focusing on different characters. It was fun to get to know these sweet Indian people, Deepack, Lali, Sanji. The romance was enjoyable, but it really wasn't the whole story. The whole elevator history was super interesting, I of course being familiar with the idea of an elevator operator, but not really realizing that the earlier elevators were tricky enough to require that, not just something people could push a button to get to where they needed on their own.

It got a little silly in the final third, with the mystery of the stolen necklace, but there were a couple laugh out loud moments.

Very enjoyable book.
