listen. listen the only reason i finished this book is so i could write a review. others have unpacked the big flaws — inconsistent characterization of rory, a lack of enjoyable characters, twists that were nuts, an overuse of SA, etc — and those are all big detractors but listen. listen to me. this author knows nothing about hockey.
she doesn’t know how teams are run, how contracts are managed, she doesn’t even know HOW LONG A HOCKEY GAME IS. SHE SAID IT WAS 90 MINUTES. ITS 60. BE FOR REAL. PLEASE BE FOR REAL.
also everything abt how trades and buyouts etc were described was like. mostly soccer. hockey doesn’t work that way literally at all. people shouldnt write about things without doing like bare minimum research for the love of god. like i know it’s just set dressing for the porn or whatever but. like bare minimum. c’mon.
however it is funny that given this nightmare owner-gm man, vancouver is fated to have terrible ownership even in fiction 😔
also the twitter plot—- you know that tweet like “me and my friends would have hit ET with hammers”? that but it’s that real hockey twitter would have clowned on that account so hard they’d have deactivated. hockey gurl was writing all time copypastas
also burden of proof exists??? you can’t arrest someone without evidence???? be for real.
ALSO A SWAT TEAM IN CANADA???
also why would you name a character lolita like be normal i’m begging
in conclusion this book was bad in every way and made literally no sense ever
my last thing and this is small bc it is a very very common mistake but. technically stadiums and arenas are very differently sized buildings and hockey is played in an arena not a stadium.
