This was an odd mix of sci-fi and yet a proximate future where the languages and world that we know today in 2023 are still influential to some degree.

A lot of loose ends that will need more books to follow up on and honestly am still not sure if I will or not. The stories of the Sisterhood (group of voiceless women who follow Mother and the Goddess) are interesting and the world building elements are there. Referencing the mysterious sentient creatures leaves open a plot hook and stories abound.

One thing I did appreciate is what another reviewer called “casual queerness”. A main character is non-binary, another bisexual falling into a relationship with a woman. This is a big gay space opera and am here for it!!
