Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
5.0
easily my #1 favourite read of the year so far. honestly, just genuinely perfection.
the writing style: delectable. the plotline: engaging, satisfying, and excellently developed. the characters: dynamic and relatable, and the realistic pacing of growth in relation to human habits, i'm swooning.
and the worldbuilding was the cherry: aesthetic and comfy, balanced with incredible honesty and a tasteful inclusion of the most commonly accepted understanding and expectations of Folk - namely their clever cruelty and outright illogical fickleness.
it will be difficult for another book to top this one for me any time soon.
