It’s been almost two weeks since I finished this book and I’m still thinking about it constantly. This was a really great sequel to CC1, though I do think there was a bit of wandering in the first half. This book had POV’s from a handful of characters. This promoted some of the side characters from book one to main character status. My favorite new main character, and also my new book boyfriend, is Ruhn. Oh. My. God. I’m still fanning myself over here.

I still love Bryce, but Hunt slid down a bit on my list of favorites. They decided to take their relationship slow to get to know each other better, which was more of a tease, but I do think it was purely to drag out their love story and create extra tension. It seemed a bit forced IMO. I got a little confused because I thought they had admitted their love for each other at the end of the previous book, but they acted like they hadn’t. Per the situation in this part of the story, I felt like they were just wasting time by not being together. One of their intimate moments was more out of anger/fear than love and it seemed a little awkward to me.

It was really easy to jump into this book because there wasn’t as much intense world building. There was so much excitement, a lot of fun, and tons easter eggs and predictions. While this book was a roller coaster, it didn’t have the same impactful emotional element I loved so much about the first book. I didn’t cry or get sad at all while reading this one. Of course I loved the many super steamy moments and I loved SJM’s emphasis on consent.

I really loved this book, but it was a 4 star read for me up until the final chapters. Those last chapters made me completely loose my shit. My mind imploded from shock and pure joy. I’ve already gone back and read my favorite sections several times. I had to give HoSaB 5 stars just for that ending. I have a million theories and my DM’s are always open if you want to chat!
