The Gray House by Mariam Petrosyan

4.0

One doesn’t review The Gray House. It is best experienced.

800 pages later, I can’t quite critique this novel. Sure, there is not really a plot and it can feel… uneven… but somehow it works. The world Petrosyan creates is so immersive, the characters incredibly vivid. Roughly five characters trade off the duties of narration and there is not a reliable narrator to be found. It almost feels as if Joyce wrote Lord of the Flies.

This is not a novel for everyone, but it sure worked for me. It is more of a tone poem. A painting in prose.

I want more!
