This book took me by surprise as one of my favorite of Isabel Allende's novels so far. I am a sucker for good historical fiction! I loved these characters, and I loved how I felt I was unravelling the mysteries of Alma's life alongside Seth and Irina. It really picked up about halfway through. There were some very emotional moments, especially concerning the tragedies these Jewish and Japanese families went through during WWII. What an excellent book that makes me want to re-read and look for clues knowing what I know now.
