Honestly, it is so hard for me to rate a book a 5! I usually reserve that score for a perfect book (language, plot, characters, AND something surprising or lasting!) and most of those are for an older audience. This book is such a treat! My 11-year-old daughter picked this book up with my mom over summer break and I thought it would be nice to listen to the audiobook and then we can discuss it! I cannot believe that as a 40-year-old woman, I was completely enthralled! The book is filled with lovable characters, a beautiful story about family, loss, struggle, curiosity, grit, and hope, as well as funny anecdotes! It's been a while since I have read a book for younger audiences, but this gem does not 1. speak down to you, 2. belittle the internal diaglogue of kids, 3. speak poorly of adult figures, 4. diminish the feelings and everyday struggles of children. The book is best suited for children 10 and up and obviously, perfect for 40-year-old moms trying to figure out a way to connect with their kids! Loved every page!
