Sage snd Fisher are meeting in a time where they both are feeling sort of stuck in life and in coming together, find a path forward.
This story takes a look at grief and how it can impact people differently. Sage having faced grief, in one way or another, most of her life has some pretty special lessons she is able to share with Fisher and his niece Indy, when they spend the summer next door. She also teaches them about connection, with the land surrounding them, with animals, and with each other. At the start of the book, Fisher and Indy feel like their are in an uncontrollable spin, but find their balance.
The town of Spunes, Oregon has some quirky people and quirkier traditions but is soft place to land for those trying to figure out their next steps. The descriptions of the town and the people aid in making this book feel super cozy. I want to walk down the streets eating ice cream after visiting the library. There is just a special magic in the words that helps drive this story home.
I loved Fisher’s first introduction to the townsfolk and his neighbor, Sage, swirling in wearing a cow-print robe to save him from her busybody brothers and unwelcome ex. You immediately know what you are getting into with a little intrusive questioning, some serious lack of boundaries, a splash of silliness, and the fierce loyalty on display. I just loved it
