This was a story about hurting. Brent was physically hurting after an accident that ended his career, and mentally hurting as the father was putting pressure on him and his healing. Jon is divorcing and he has no idea about when things went sideways with his now ex-wife.
They both meet, they both understand each other's pain, they both try to deal with it while looking and needing some human contact and intimacy.
There were moments when I could understand the pressure and the way Brent's life changed after an accident makes you wonder about how quickly life can change, and how difficult it might be dealing with it and finding people who understand your situation without trying to fix you or judge you.
I must say, I loved how they both relied on dogs, and how Jon's kid tries to understand the divorce situation, or how Jon wants to explain queer couples to his son.
I must say this is one of the best books in the series so far, for its depth and for how it made me think about different things.
