Gerald's Game by Stephen King

3.0

I'm really impressed that King was able to make a novel out of a woman being handcuffed to a bed. Surprised? Not a bit, but impressed. I was bored through most of it, then Jessie got her nighttime visitor, and I thought, "YES! We're going to get some creepy King storytelling!" and then... nothing happened. Thus, when this nighttime visitor was introduced again, I got really excited again! But then nothing. So really, this, for me, was a lot of long, dull periods of beautiful prose with exciting bits thrown in, and a wonderful ending letter that elevated the rating from a 2 to a 3 star rating.

More and more starting to think that this point in King's career just isn't for me. None of the books written in this particular "King Era" really strike my fancy. It's all beautifully written, just not for me, I think. But then again, it's only very rarely that I get sucked into character experiments (which is how I see this book and Dolores Claiborne) with excitement.
