The Sorcerer Heir by Cinda Williams Chima

4.0

This book is tied with the first book as my favorite books of the series! It had the best mix of action, romance, magical plots, and a satisfying conclusion. I really loved the characters (Kenzie was my favorite) and enjoyed how it ended the series!

Warning! Series recap and spoilers ahead!
This series was unique, in that each book (or pairs of books) focused on different, interconnected, plotlines. It felt like interconnected series in the same world. The first book was its own series, books 2 and 3 had their own plotlines, and books 4 and 5 finished out the series with a completely different plotline. But the series was really interesting! I liked that each book focused on the heir from the title (warrior, wizard, dragon, enchanter, and sorcerer) and that it discussed the different ways the rigid power system was hurting the different magical populations. I think the last two books were my favorite plotlines, with the mystery of what happened at Thorn Hill all those years ago and the tension in the romance where one person kills with his touch. I also loved that the characters from each book reappeared throughout the series, even if they were no longer the main characters and we got to see them grow (and redeem themselves) in their new roles and as they became adults and leaders.
I really enjoyed this series! I still prefer her other series to this one, but I truly love and enjoy everything Cinda Williams Chima writes.
