The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

5.0

Loved this book. Listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it immensely. The narrator is very charming and nails the whimsical tone. I loved it so much I bought the book as well. It's delightful and a beautiful sweetheart of a book. It’s a lovely book for people who love books, bookshops, and the people around them. There’s a bit of romance, a second chance narrative, sharp dialogue, and endearing curmudgeons. I laughed, I cried, I got the warm fuzzies.

It's not perfect, though, and that ending really surprised me and left me with a lot of unanswered questions, and I ultimately thought the title should be "The Storied Life of Island Books." But I did love A.J. Fikry as a character, and the little universe of readers that he collects around himself. Don't expect to know every detail of every character's life, and be ok with not knowing and instead be resigned with imagining the possible outcomes instead.
