The Maker of Swans by Paraic O'Donnell

Did not finish book. Stopped at 26%.
There's an art to a mystery, a balance between revealing too much and skirting around the issue that your reader feels like they're going around in circles. Unfortunately (and I know this is O'Donnell's debut novel), this book veers toward the latter end of the spectrum. Coupled with the very formal, affected speech, everything so far feels obscured by a layer of artifice. Yes, I'm still early on, but there is such obvious obfuscation that makes me wonder if it's a matter of cultural differences, that the American in me wants something to be plainly said. But I suppose I should have known from the beginning that the Scott Lynch level of theatrics would make this book and I a poor match.
