my literal baby. i don’t want to hear a single thing about this book. this is the book that got me back into reading. i literally love this book so so so much, i love me some alex volkov, and, unpopular opinion, i didn’t hate the singing scene. then he literally stepped down as ceo and traveled oversees to get his girl back?? she’s stronger than me cuz i would’ve folded immediately.

with this being the book that put me right back into reading, i was not disappointed. and for that alone, i will be forever grateful for ana and her writing. this book opened my eyes to the world to adult romance, as well as the endless book recommendations and welcoming community of booktok.

ava chen is a chinese-american girl who has always been protected and sheltered by her older brother, josh chen. when ava is forced to be on her own without her brother, josh being josh, makes his best friend, alex volkov move in next door to watch his sister and to make sure she stays out of trouble. ava, being ava, has her interest in alex, and the two of them slowly, but surely, allow their feelings to shine through. ava is a character i would describe as 'she looks innocent, but she is far from it' (if you know you know).

alex volkov, mannnn i fell in love with him from the first page he was introduced. yes, he was a brood man, but i had a feeling that it was a softer interior behind his cold exterior, and boy was i correct. the way alex's character developed as he allowed ava into his life, and allowed her to show him that he could be loved as well as love... himself.

though this wasn't the first book ana has written, it was the first book i have read, and i cannot get enough of the two of them. i have thought about them constantly, and how ava really stood on business to make him grovel for a YEAR in a whole other country at that.

Now, that, ladies and gents... makes alex volkov the king of groveling in my mind, and i have yet to come across another book man who does groveling better than him.
