Bone Song by John Meaney
2.0
Sweet baby Jesus, this was hard. Apparently I'm in the minority here when I say I struggled. First off - Meaney's brain = magical. I mean, to come up with all of this is brilliant really. For me, though, it was way too much. It was like every single dark, Gothic creature and fantasy spin he could throw in there - he did. Which is great - if you understand what's going on the whole time. To be honest, I didn't. I got lost so many times. So - I guess it's a compliment to Meaney because I struggled to keep up with his madness. The world building was fantastic - on the upside. Holy cow, dude. And the characters? I loved them. Even Donal - who was flaky at best. Sure, he had his "deep" moments but really he just had a perpetual hard on the entire time. Xalia was my favorite part, by far, along with FenSeven. And that ending? Brutal, Meaney, brutal.
