I guess I expected the second-last book to feel more dramatic? Something about Anastasia Furan as the final villain feels... not very well-developed across the series as a whole. Like she should've been introduced as a character sooner and it feels like the series arc wasn't well-established whatsoever when the first few books were written. I did really like meeting The Architect and again the political intrigue (which is one of the more consistent highlights of later books), but a lot also fell flat for me. And like, I guess how this series handles death and trauma is not very fleshed out? At all?
Which really came up with Tom's death, which oof, and made me think back to Lucy's death, which I don't think was even explicitly mentioned at all in this book, like grief and memory are so flippant for the characters in ways they're not in real life.
Anyway at this point I just want to finish Bloodline to be done with the series and so I can read fanfic!
