I nearly dnf'ed this at around 20-25%, but started to feel more of a connection with the characters so stuck it out. It ended up being enjoyable overall, but the magical elements had me scratching my head. Possibly that was by design, but I wish I hadn't felt a bit removed from what was happening for parts of the book. Forrest and Jonathan were great characters and great together, and I will probably read the follow-on book, but I think this is a book that if it had another editing pass, could have gotten a 4 star or higher from me.
