Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari

4.0

In my honest opinion, Dee is most in her element when she writes Indonesian "superheroes". That's why SUPERNOVA is so good and she proved it again with this book. When we usually imagine images of faces and places, Aroma Karsa is trying to make you imagine all kinds of smell. It is easy to read yet still intriguing, and rich in Indonesian culture. I was hoping for a tragic ending (since I don't care for happy endings) but the open ending feels oddly satisfying that I think both people who like happy and tragic endings will like it, but maybe that's her intention. My only wish is if there were pictures of some of the perfume bottles or the flowers, like they did for the tattoos in SUPERNOVA: AKAR. But I guess it's up to my imagination now, and that's good too.
