I'm glad I stuck with this book because the final sea battle was AMAZING.

The whole last few hundred pages gave me the same feeling the first season of stranger things did, when all of the characters and their different story lines finally converge and it's extremely satisfying. Also the amount of character development everyone got was definitely a strength, I can think of several characters who would be unrecognisable to me if I went back to the first book now.

I'm being generous with the star rating just because I took a long break from reading this about half way through so my memory of the first half is quite hazy. But the sea serpent chapters really got on my nerves at this point in the trilogy, they annoyed me in the other books because of how much they killed the pacing but I finally lost patience with them in this one, and just began to skip them so that I didn't lose momentum. Even after knowing how they fit in with everything else going on, I don't think they needed as many chapters as they got.

Overall I didn't enjoy this trilogy as much as the farseer trilogy, though that is probably mostly due to my preference for stories that focus on one POV character rather than a bunch, and these books had a TONNE of different characters and storylines. They were woven very well and seamlessly and I did enjoy these books, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad to get back to the Six Duchies in the next book lol
