Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden

slow-paced

2.5

Pretty unimpressed, but I will admit that I’m not exactly the target demographic (age wise, because I am indeed an Australian).
The first part with the kids camping was Boring - I was coming to the story for the invasion part not the camping randomly part.
The conversations they had about “apocalypse end of the world” while camping but before they went back felt pretty slap your face stupid. We all know that’s what happened back home, it was unnecessary to have a conversation about that potentially having, right as it’s happening close by…
So many animals died and that was heartbreaking and I didn’t see that happening to so many after only a few days.
There were really odd and out of place references to the Bible, that were either very glib, or apathetic. Seems to me they were pretty unnecessary- and that’s coming from a reader who loves Christian fiction!
I don’t know WHY the hermit killer thing was necessary… it wasn’t that I could see. However, there are more books in this series so perhaps it would be later on?
The story (when it got going) was pretty okay…
