Daughters of Darkness by L.J. Smith

Yikes.

I thought this book sounded interesting. I thought this was about witches. Hard-core women, getting shit done, while their piece of shit brother is after them...

Alas. I was far from the truth and my goodness, so was the writing. This was the same woman who wrote Vampire Diaries and I remember I tried to get through that only to be in pain by what I was reading.

The same here only, this Night World is a joke. A fucking joke because to be quite honest it's neither scary nor existent. The characters like discussing it but we never see it or experience anything else from this terrifying world.

Oh, and the reason is eventually known: it's some 1700's island where women are told what they can and cannot do. That is why the three girls on the cover escaped and why they are on the run from their brother.

Also, I can see where Stephanie Meyer could have gotten her weird 'imprint' shit. Apparently the brother of the girls has a soulmate, who is a human, and who befriends the trio. The twist is he's supposed to hate humans but he cannot hate his soulmate! Oh dear. Let me tell you, their romance was nonsense. The author likes to flaunt that her characters are strong women and while that may be true she sure shows it in her writing by making the characters do outlandish things to prove it.

I honestly think there are some interesting ideas in this book (and probably the rest in the series). Will I pick up another? Hell no.
