The Spear: A Novel of the Crucifixion by Louis de Wohl, Louis de Wohl

4.0

I liked this story way more than I expected to. This book is Max's summer reading for (Catholic) school, and I pre-read it just to share the experience with him and to help him with some of the vocabulary and historical context (homeschooling habits die hard!).

There was one part that seemed utterly unrealistic to me - the 15-year-old Jewish girl that was all but raped by the Roman centurion and consequently falls in love with him. Puh-leeze. But it's an older book and the author is obviously male, and I will cut him some slack because the story was otherwise well done.
