I liked that book 1 had an ending. Not everything resolved by any means, but enough that felt I wasn't left hanging. So while not compelled to continue with the series, I did. Book 2 picks up right where the first left off, and it is more of the same. Now Mercy does have powers, although she is still learning to control them. We've already gotten to know all the characters, and they all continue to play a part here as the story continues. Mercy's mother (thought to be dead) is introduced and there is a lot of magic and betrayal and wondering where it's all going. Again, this book does wrap up nicely, although there are still sequels. I think I'll move on to something else right now, but I did enjoy my time in Savannah with Mercy and company.

I listened to this as an audiobook, same reader as the first (good for continuity). I like to highlight words I'm not familiar with (or ones that are just not in everyday use) and found myself WANTING to highlight ... which is partially possible as this was Kindle with narration (so I could quickly open the book and find the word or phrase) and I did do that a bit.
