It tells the story of two young women that live in the same world, but two different time periods - Rielle and Eliana. The story flips back and forth between the two time periods, telling their stories separately and then weaving them together. Rielle's kingdom is in a battle against angels while Eliana fights against the evil and devastation in the aftermath from their war.
The chapters are short and flip back and forth between 1000 years, it can be a little jarring. But the story of Rielle is essential to understand the story of Eliana. Both storylines gain momentum quickly and both held my attention throughout the whole book.
