To be honest... I have mixed feelings about this book and am not quite sure how to feel about it directly after finishing.

The writing style and the magic system of the main character are lovely, the book draws you in like a warm hug, especially in the beginning.
I also liked most of the characters, especially Mo and Mum - those two are absolutely amazing.

The protagonist herself is quite enjoyable herself though
she is QUITE slow to pick up on clues. Slow enough to make me groan out loud SEVERAL times at here missing information

The romance and the love interest were... surprisingly not so present as I would have expected

My main problem is the ending honestly: so spoilers for the ending beneath
The death felt while devastating kind of unneeded and just a plot tool, to make a second book necessary. I think the book would have benefited more from a clear cut ending as a standalone probably - haven't read the sequel yet though

I am probably going to still read the sequel just to close the chapter for myself, but I can't say I am really hyped for it

The narrator of the audible version: Jordan Cobb was really really nice - I loved her narration for people willing to pick up the audiobook
