A raw, difficult, grotesque, shocking, sometimes disgusting, impacting story about a murder and the community involved in it. Set in a fictional city in rural Mexico, but based on a real murder. You condemn all the characters, you also get to understand them, how they got to that point. I particularly enjoyed the structure that Melchor created for the book, the imagery, the language and tone, like someone telling you a story about what happened in the neighborhood. Highly recommend those reading this book to also have a look at interviews with Melchor, she is a fascinating writer and gives a lot of insights of her process and writing.
