The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
5.0
Book ☆☆☆☆☆
I'm must admit I'm a sucker for a romance novel and The Hating Game was the ideal pick for the month of love. I was hooked from the moment I picked it up.Lucy and Josh are complete polar opposites of each other but both flawed in a way that makes them the perfect match. I warmed to both of them almost immediately and loved watching their characters progress throughout the book. Their banter, chemistry and game playing was both adorable and hilarious, I honestly couldn't get enough. It gave a unique spin to the classic enemies to lovers trope. The writing was superb. The slow build up and sweet ending was done perfectly yet left you wanting more. It was such a fun read and I couldn't help but smile, swoon and laugh out loud from start to finish. Its hard to believe that this was Sally Thorne's first novel. I most certainly will re-read this and more of her work in the future. I can't recommend it enough!
Film ☆☆☆☆
I really loved this movie adaptation and the casting and the chemistry was spot on. I've loved Lucy Hale since the Pretty Little Liar days and she didn't disappointed, she seems to nail the cutesy type roles. Austin Stowell on the other hand, I'd never heard of before this film but he, too, nailed it. He was pretty much what I imagined the perfect Joshua Templeman to be, nice butt by the way! On a whole the movie was cute but I felt a bit disappointed that some important scenes from the book were either changed or cut out. While I get that somethings were necessary, I personally didn't like how they switched up Lucy to pursue Josh instead of the other way round. The build up to their romance also felt slightly rushed, which is one of the aspects that sways me more towards preferring the book. The movie is great in its own way, I highly recommend both versions. However, I probably would suggest spacing out them a fair bit, otherwise you may find yourself feeling slightly disappointed.
